What is Computer Science and how will it help in your career prospects? Computer Science is the study of all aspects of computer systems, from the theoretical foundations to the very practical aspects of managing large software projects. You will study logic, algorithms, how computers are designed, networking, how computers are programmed and how very complex systems can be specified, designed and verified. No prior computing skills are required although a quick and logical mind is necessary to succeed in this field.

Bachelor of Information Sciences (BInfSc) in Information Technology

When you surf the Internet, you are using the largest information system in the world. Most of the technology that makes the Internet work for you, Web browsers and Web servers, was only invented in 1991. In just a few short years, the technology has swept the world, finding its way into millions of homes, thousands of businesses, and even cafes. And the Web is just one among many new information technologies that will affect your life. The challenge for businesses and other groups of people who work together is to take up and use these technologies in a sensible way. The development and modification of business information systems, from small web-based systems to medium and large scale corporate systems, is a major industry.

This stimulating new degree programme will develop your knowledge and professional skills for a career path leading to the future development of these challenging technical areas. You will be taught to apply theory to real systems, with hands-on experience of the latest developments in electronics, communications and control. Electronics is fundamental to many of the things we take for granted today. Everything from digital media to aircraft to specialist medical equipment relies on electronics and it is diffi cult to think of any area of life that has not been affected by the many developments that have taken place in electronics over the years. Today, engineering in general - and electronics in particular - is an international business. Most of the leading companies (e.g. Intel) operate not just in several countries, but across continents. Most emphatically, electronics is developing at a more rapid pace than ever before. This makes the job of the Electronic Engineer both exciting and challenging: it also means that there are great rewards for engineers, both in terms of remuneration and job satisfaction. All of our engineering courses are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology, which contributes towards satisfying the requirements for Chartered Engineer status.
